Today, we got all ready for Scout Camp at Camp Oljato next week. The scouts who came were me, Rick, Ryan, Dallin, Jaren, Kyle M. Tay, Tay's brother Conner, and several 11-year-old scouts: Spencer Patterson, Seth Garff, and Andrew Burrill. And Brother Spencer was our leader.
We firstput our backpacks in the Primary room and went into the kitchen in the Church, and started making tin foil dinners. Brother Spencer packed the hamburger into patties, Spencer chopped the carrots, Dallin mixed the green beans into a bowl, Jaren poured the potatoes into a bowl and mixed in some oil in too, and Dallin and I chopped the onions (we didn't cry, but it did really hurt smelling them).
We then had a procedure for making the tin foil dinners. We'd first pour oil on a piece of tin foil. The oil is important because it will get heated up and will cook the food. Then Brother Spencer would give us each a patty of hamburger. Then came the green beans and the onions, and then the carrots and potatoes. Tay had brought garlic powder and A1 sauce, so we used those too. The only problem was that the A1 sauce got taken in the first few minutes, so we then had to stick to the barbeque sauce Brother Spencer made. After making our own, we made some for the scouts who didn't come to our scout meeting, like Brandon, his dad, Dewlin, and Jeremy.
Jaren and some of the 11-year-old scouts found some slugs outside, and wanted to pour salt on them, but they lost the slugs, so they really couldn't. Then we had to clean up the kitchen. Kyle cleaned the knives. Dallin and I cleaned up the onions. Brother Spencer, and some of the 11-year-old scouts cleaned up the hamburger and vegetables. Jaren and Dallin sweeped the floor, and Seth and I wiped down the floor.
We then all went in the Primary room and had a Pack Check to see if we have everything we need in our backpacks. After our pack check, we went home. So, today we got a lot done to get ready for Scout Camp!

The 2010 Planning Meeting Part 2
Today we had some more planning for the year. We thought of different themes for different activities in the year. Some of the themes were an urban theme for a hike to Downtown Danville or a camp out in Brother Jackson's backyard. We had a snow theme were we could go sledding or go to the snow in Yosemite. Another theme was the Survivor theme where we would camp on an island, try to survive ourselves, and vote people off to go home. That was a pretty successful theme!
We were then separated into our patrols and we were assigned our different jobs (Senior Patrol Leader, Chaplain Aide, Scribe, etc.) In case if you didn't know, our troop was separated into small patrols to manage with all the scouts!
Patrol 1: Patrol 2:
Dallin Jeremy
Teddy Travis
Rick Ryan
Alec Brandon
Jeff Dewlin
Jaren Kyle W.
Kyle M.
We then played a few rounds of Mafia, a murder mystery game. Click here to learn how to play! And that was pretty much our Scout Meeting tonight!

The Triple Scout Meeting
Well, we just had an eventful Scout Meeting! We started with a Court of Honor. Most of us got the merit badges we earned at Scout Camp, like Citizenship in the Nation, Wilderness Survival, and First Aid. Some of us also got the merit badges from Advance Camp, like Rick, who got his Music merit badge and Jeremy and Alec, who got their Chemistry merit badge.
There was some rank advancements too. Dallin and I advanced to Star Scout, and Alec advanced to Life Scout! Then, I showed the slideshow of Scout Camp.
After the Court of Honor, Brother Ganschow told us what to pack for our next camp out. We get to go snow camping up in Donner Pass. Instead of sleeping in tents or under the stars, we get to sleep in snow caves!
Then finally, we practiced our skit for the show thing for the Ward Christmas Breakfast at Church. All the youth put on skits and we deacons are playing the chimes. Last year we played Silent Night. This year we'll be playing Deck the Halls.
So, there's some things to tune in for later in December!

In the Kitchen
So, first, we poured a cup of granola into 28 baggies. Then, we poured 4 tablespoons of powdered milk into all 28 Ziploc baggies (but don't worry, we'll add water to it on the trip. If we didn't, well, ugh!). Rick got kinda tired (and a little delirious). We all started getting a little crazy and started yelling, and I think some other people would pass by and think "What are they doing in there?"
Then, we poured 2/3 cup of potato flakes into 14 Ziploc baggies (we'll add water to that too to make mashed potatoes).
After that, Jeremy, Rick, and I went to the bathroom, while Randall and Brother Spencer poured Gatorade powder into 14 baggies and put a bunch of penny candy into 14 Ziploc baggies.
Then, it came down to the trail mix and fruit. While Brother Spencer and Randall put dried fruit into I don't know how many Ziploc baggies, Jeremy, Rick, and I made the trail mix. We started off pouring regular trail mix into as many Ziploc baggies as we could. Then we poured in small marshmallows. Then came the macadamia nuts. Next was Chex cereal, and then pretzels, and finally, sunflower seeds. Yeah, this part took up almost the whole meeting.
Then we put all the small Ziploc baggies into bigger Ziploc bags. The granola with powdered milk, the potato flakes, and the Gatorade powder went into one Ziploc bag, and the fruit, trail mix, and penny candy in another. Then, we put Nutrigrain bars, toaster pastries, and oatmeal into the bags with granola with powdered milk, potato flakes, and Gatorade powder. Then we packed in 14 bags of beef jerky.
Yeah, so here's a recipe for our trail mix:
Troop 225 Trail Mix
- Take two handfuls of store-bought trail mix
- Take a handful of macadamia nuts
- Take a handful of small marshmallows
- Take a handful of Chex cereal
- Take a handful of pretzels
- Take a handful of sunflower seeds.
- Eat it up!
